I would argue that (D) is wrong as well. Sensible exercise and proper diet result (not results)in better health. Two nouns joined by "and" should result in a plural term, not a singular one.

I see your point. I believe in this case diet and exercise form a single entity, and the corresponding verb can be ending in s. I have invited the question author to contribute his thought.

Yes, we view "sensible exercise and proper diet" as one concept. However, this is subjective. The plural verb "result" could also be used here. But the question is testing parallel structure, so choice (D) is still the best answer even if you prefer the plural verb "result."
