Dillon, in questions like this, the task is to find one answer that "most closely conforms" or "most closely [verb]...". Therefore, another answer may "work", but it is not the best choice compared to the answer key.

Actually, in this case, I don't see how C would work. The main premise is that there is a degree of agnosticism (I don't know whether there is a benefit or not, whether it is true or not), but just to be on the safe side, I should do it anyway. C is merely a straight causal argument: because A, we should or should not do B.
