Isn't equally an adverb since it modified 'shared' and don't adverbs go after the verb that they modify?

Jennifer, yes, "equally" is an adverb. Adverbs don't always go after the verb. Sometimes they go before the verb being modified.

Both E and C sound right to me. What makes E the correct answer?

Actually, E is not the correct answer, because the subject is "ownership", which is singular, so the corresponding verb should be singular too: "is", not "are". The Correct Answer's explanation does a good job explaining this. Please read it prior to posting. Thanks.

Wait a second... The main part is "the material AND its means of distribution". This is MORE THAN ONE thing, so shouldn't (A) be seen as the right answer?

Ownership of blah blah is shared...
Ownership is shared...

C and D are the same thing so how is d not right

Reply: D is different from C
And D says "their's" instead of "it's" -which is wrong (D)
