Question four is wrong, the correct answer is 5 instead of -15

Hi Matt, thanks for posting. Did you check out the posted solution above your post? I am pretty sure the answer is not 5.
Can you share your steps? First, use your iPad or iPhone to diagram your steps in the workspace (use the Pen Tool). Then click on the comment button / bubble. After typing a short comment text, tap on Attach a Video or Screenshot, and select Workspace Screenshot. The app will attach the steps that you will have diagrammed in the Workspace. That way we can see where you may have made a mistake. Thanks.

The equation is 3-((2^3)-2[3-162]
The mistake I believe comes from the
-2[3-162] part of the equation so I will just solve this.
-2[3-8]= -2[-5] now here is the difference of opinion [-5] becomes 5 and then is multiplied by -2 getting
-10... According to the solution You guys are getting 10

Yes, this is where the mistake came from. (-5) cannot become 5 all of a sudden, right?

What I am using to base my opinion off of is that [-5] /= doesn't equal -5
So let's just go with [-5]= -5 when you play this out it becomes 5 = -5 that doesn't work. [-5] = 5
So let's just go with [-5]= -5 when you play this out it becomes 5 = -5 that doesn't work. [-5] = 5

Also the 162 is 16 divided by 2 but the iPhone division symbol must be getting edited out.

Hi Matt. I just tested from my iPhone. The forward slash / works as an alternative division symbol. The backslash will be edited out. Please use the forward slash when commenting or asking. Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I really don't think I am. Happy hunting on the math proof showing that [-5] =-5

Matt, thank you for sharing your steps. (-5) is most definitely = -5. Parentheses are present to give priority to the order of operation. When there is only one element in the operation, you can remove the parentheses. Hence -2·(-5) = -2 · -5 = +10

[ ] are absolute value symbols note -5 is inside absolute value symbols and not parentheses.

Ahhh, ok Matt. I see where the source of the confusion is. Absolute value symbols are | .. | instead of the square parentheses or brackets [ ... ]. Do you notice the little bends at the top and bottom? Square brackets are sometimes used when there are brackets in brackets. I am sorry for the confusion.
