It says the joke would be a way to show others how she wants to be treated. It does not say that she worries what the audience hearing her joke thinks of her. Was there something else in the package that led you there?

Matt, the beginning of the first paragraph tells us that women are concerned about how she appears to others, including men, to be considered successful.
