There is an error with this question. The correct answer per the key is AB, but per the explanation is ABC. Currently C, D, and E are "undefined," and there is no option F that shows up as an option when answering.

Jeremiah, thank you for alerting us of the error. The correct choices are shown here.

(A) The people who existed under the totalitarian structure have not had the experience of “negotiating the empty space of freedom.”
(B) Mistaking the order in which political, economic, and social restructuring would occur.
(C) Excessive self-interest among the new political activists.
(D) All of the above.

Thanks. If the answer is supposed to be ABC, shouldn't it be ABCD?

Jeremiah, the instruction should say "Consider each of the choices, and select one that applies." instead of "Consider each of the choices, and select all that apply."

Thanks for the alert, and we apologize for the error. This will be fixed with the next update.

The correct answer's explanation should have said:
"This is an extension question. Statement A is true. The author implies that the institutions of the new-born, free society were created in great pain because the people lacked experience. Statement B is true. Expectations that the market mechanisms would explode totalitarianism and usher in a new society were dashed, and having to readjust one’s expectations certainly makes a situation more difficult. Finally, statement C is true. It summarizes the thrust of the passage’s closing lines.

The answer is (D): all of the above."

Where is the sentence implies the statement of option C?
And does anyone know the meaning of the later half of the last sentence in the third paragraph?
"Where different forms of ownership and different economic actors will live one next to the other."

Thanks!

"Where different forms of ownership and different economic actors will live one next to the other." In the context of the passage, the sentence is talking about different kinds of private ownership (individual proprietor, limited company, publicly listed company, etc.) in a democratic capitalism, instead of just government ownership in a communist system.
