This is wrong...if the values are decimals...x=.9 and y=.8 column A is greater...therefore it's D

Hi Soujanya,

The values of x and y must satisfy the inequality x < y < 0 that appears between Column A and Column B. Since 0.9 and 0.8 are positive numbers, they do not satisfy the inequality x < y < 0.

This is not correct. The instructions do not say that these have to be integers. Therefore sometimes when you multiply them they come out less. I think D is the more appropriate answer because we were not given the information that the numbers have to be integers.

Your discussion of how the problem is solved does not match your question. You mentioned stipulations of the numbers being positive are on. There is nothing along those lines in the question. Please explain.

Omonpee, I do not understand your comment. x and y are negative. The sum of x and y is negative. The product of x and y is positive. So the product is larger than the sum, and B is the answer.
