Aesel, did you know there is an explanation? Before you move to the next question you can tap the Solution / Explanation button.

Jared. Say there is a number, q=10. "" is defined as the smallest factor that is an integer and which is greater than 1. That means, 10 has 1, 2, 5, and 10 as integer factors, and the smallest factor larger than 1 is 2.

10^3 is 1000, and it has many integer factors, but the least ones are 1, 2, 4, and so forth, up to 1000 itself. The least factor that is still greater than 1 is 2. "" = 2.

Hence "" and "" are equal. This is just one example, but if you use 2, 3, and 4 as q, the results will be the same. The smallest factor of q and q^3 that is greater than 1 would be the same.

I don't understand why if q is 2, 2x2x2=8 eventually becomes 2

Francis, here we are not looking for explicitly 2^3 or 2*2*2, but as it is defined, the smallest, positive factor of 2^3 that is greater than 1.

Focus on the factors not the power. The smallest factor of 2 that's greater than 1 is 2 and the smallest factor of 8 that's greater than 1 is also 2

I don't understand this question because I don't know what the symbols "" imply when surrounding a number. What does that mean?

Hi Lillie, sorry for your experience. Sometimes the brackets are not read correctly by the browser within the app.

The brackets can be any symbol really, so in this case: let stand for the smallest positive integer factor of q that is greater than 1. Which is larger, or {q^3}?
