But if we choose m = 4 for instance, 4m+1 will 17, the next two even integers will be 18 and 20
So the sum is 38,
If we choose C, 8x4 + 6 = 38 so they are equal, not greater, which makes it wrong,?!?!

Hi Sudad Al Mutar,

ONLY the two even integers must be greater than 4m + 1, and you correctly chose the two integers: 18 and 20. Their sum is 38.

Now, the five answer-choices are possible formulas that will generate the number 38. As you correctly point out, Choice C does generate 38: 8m + 6 = 8(4) + 6 = 32 + 6 = 38, and it is the only answer-choice that returns 38. Hence, the answer is C.

But what if we chose m to equal 2? Then the original equation would equate to 9, making the next even integers 10 and 12, the sum of which is 22, but there is no corresponding equation that would also yield that answer. Am I missing something?

Hi Ali,

Your calculations above are correct, but Choice (C) does generate the number 22:

8m + 6 = 8(2) + 6 = 16 + 6 = 22

I'm not understanding where 10 is coming from? I get that m=2 and 4(2)+1=9
But how did they come up with 10+12=
