Here is a walkthrough. Remember when an exponent is raised to another power, you multiply the powers, in this case 3x13.

My question here is, do we automatically write the number in exponent form like the way the 8 is broken down? Is this a way that we simplify the equation?

Jeremy, thanks for posting and using the app. That is indeed the quickest way to simplify the equation, by recognizing that 8 is actually 2 raised to the power of 3.

8=2^3, then 3 is multiplied by 13 and we get 39, the value of z.
