Sam, in this case the function is graphed instead of spelled out in an equation. All you need to do is look at the graph.

The question writer is just trying to confuse you by substituting k for x. Since f(k)=2, y=2. In the graph, the corresponding x for y=2 could either be -2, and all x values between slightly before 2 and after 3. The only choice that corresponds to these is D = 2.5.

Sam, I just realize the graph for this question is missing from the app. The graph was actually found in question 2. Sorry for the error and confusion.

I thought it would be zero because I was looking in the y axis where y equaled two.
