Aidet, here is how you set it up:

There are 2 digits in a number: x and y. x is the ten's part, and y is the unit part.
According to the information given:
x + y = 12
x = 1/3 * y

You have 2 equations with 2 unknowns, which should be easy to solve ...

Yes, in this case you get 4/3 y = 12, which yields y=9.
