Hi, I am confused a little bit here? How about if we choose y=4 and x=3 would the answer stay the same?

Redouanne, the answer would stay the same. The question asks for which answer COULD be an even number. Even if your pair of x and y do not result in an even number, other pairs could, as x=1 and y=2 were shown to do.
