If bowl S contains only marbles (of the same size and shape), how many marbles are in the bowl?
(1) If 1/4 of the marbles were removed, the bowl would be filled to 1 /2 of its capacity.
(2) If 100 marbles were added to the bowl, it would be full.
(A) if statement (1) ALONE is sufficient to answer the question but statement (2) alone is not sufficient;
(B) ...
(C) ...
(D) ...
(E) ...

I think c is incorrect. Only when c is based on the assumption that all marbles have the same size.

HI G, you are right that there is an assumption that all marbles are of the same size.
Say the capacity for the bowl is C, and the number of marbles in the bowl is N.
The first statement, written mathematically, is: N - 1/4 N = 1/2 C
The 2nd statement, written mathematically, is: N + 100 = C
Since we have 2 unknown variables and 2 equations, we can solve for N.

... (continuing previous post:)
then the answer is C.

Oops. Continuing the previous post:
.... and 2 equations, we can solve
for the unknown variables. Then the answer is C.
