I do not understand how in the denominator of the fraction 1-1/2 becomes just 1/2. Thanks for any help.

Katherine, thank you for using the app. It's just subtraction happening in the denominator. 1 minus one-half becomes one-half. Then 1 divided by one-half equals 2. Then 2 is added to 1 ...
