Why would the answer be D, when the passage's main focus is that one's identity develops like a growing wake of a boat? I believe A would be a better answer choice.

Tyree, answer A, "Existensialists believe that our identify is continually evolving" sounds more like a premise. It's the start of an argument or explanation. Then the paragraph gives more details, and makes a conclusion.

Hint: pay attention to the conjunctive "so". Usually behind "so", there is a conclusion.
