I don't get why 7^8+7+7^8= 7^8(7+1)

Jennifer, the explanation did not say 7^8+7+7^8= 7^8(7+1) as you wrote, instead 7^8*7+7^8= 7^8(7+1). It is just distributive property, by factoring out 7^8, we get (7+1) in the parentheses, hence we can cancel the denominator.
