What if x is positive and y is negative? Doesn't that mean column B is negative and smaller than zero?

Never mind, I figured it out. X equals y, so my hypothetical could not exist. I wish I could delete comments.

X equals y in terms of the sign or the quantity? Lame question, not clear!

In other words, how are we to know the quantities don't equal each other and not the sign in front of the quantity?

Hi Tony,

In mathematics, the equal symbol, =, between two expressions means that the expressions are equal for every mathematical property, but not necessarily identical.

So, in the equation x = y, if x is negative, then y must also be negative. If x has a numerical value of 2, then so does y, but again y does not have to be identical to x. For instance, y could equal 4/2, which equals 2 but is not identical to 2, they look different.
