Aaron Perez, the symbol ∇ is an example of a mathematical operator. An operator can be arbitrarily defined as anything by the author, and in this problem ∇ is defined as x∇y = xy - y. All you gotta do in problems like this is to plug in the given variables based on the definition.

Hence, 4∇ 6 means (4 is x and 6 is y) 4⋅6 - 6 = 24 - 6 = 18. I hope that answers the question about the operator ∇'s meaning. Now try working out 2∇3. The answer is ...

There are numerous errors in your example. The eqn. s/b 4*6-6=18. Thx in advance for making the corrections.
